MLK Day of Service with Philadelphia Reads
Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve…
You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
MLK Day of Service
at the
Book Bank
Martin Luther King High School
Monday, January 21, 2013
We invite you to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King with a day of service at Philadelphia Reads Book Bank. With your help, the Book Bank program helps build literacy skills by putting more books into the hands of Philadelphia's youngest students. Since 2005, because of you the Book Bank has provided over 2 million children's books -- free -- to classroom libraries. So far this year, educators in under-resourced schools have received over 30,000 books.
Help sort and shelve books or record picture books on tape -- and restock the Book Bank for the New Year!
Transportation will be provided from the Law School to Martin Luther King High School. You may select one of two volunteer opportunities:
10:00 – 11:45 a.m. (bus departs Law School at 9:15 a.m. SHARP; return trip 12:00 p.m.)
12:00 – 2:00 p.m. (bus departs Law School at 11:15 a.m. SHARP; return trip 2:00 p.m.)
To register, click here: http://emsoldata.net/MLK_service/
All Book Bank books are donated through book drives hosted by corporate and community partners. We are pleased to announce that our Justinian Society is sponsoring a book drive at the Law School beginning January 7th and ending January 21st. You can participate in the book drive by donating new and gently-used children’s books (Pre-school – 4th Grade) such as:
• Picture Books (hardback or paperback)
• Board Books (pages are cardboard & primarily pictures)
• Leveled Books (level 1-4 marked on front cover)
• Non-Fiction (Biographies, Atlases, Dictionaries; Jokes, Riddles, Holiday)
• Popular Series (Dr. Seuss, Curious George, etc.)
• Chapter Books (story told through prose, rather than pictures)
Donation boxes will be placed at the elevators on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors.

The Earle Mack School of Law is pleased to announce the 6th Annual Carl "Tobey" Oxholm Summer Fellowship with the Philadelphia City Solicitor's Office. The Fellowship is open to all 2Ls who have a demonstrated interest in local government and would like to explore a career in local government. It will pay a stipend of $10,000 for the summer.
The Fellowship was created by the late Drexel President Papadakis in honor of Tobey Oxholm, (former Dean and Chief Executive Officer of Drexel’s Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento, California) who was instrumental in creating our law school. A highly regarded Philadelphia lawyer often honored for his exemplary public service, Tobey calls his five years in the Solicitor’s Office “the best job I ever had”.

1. Resume
2. 2-3 page personal statement, (a) highlighting your past experience and/or interest in municipal government, (b) explaining why a summer in the Solicitor’s Office “fits” who you are and what you think you might want to do after graduation, and (c) identifying 2-3 (maximum) divisions within the Solicitor’s Office where you would prefer to work (ranking your preference and explaining your choices).
3. A personal reference from one of your professors at the law school, providing insight into what you would bring to the internship.
