Congratulations to Carol DiPinzio and Nicholas Verna

Congratulations are in order for Carol DiPinzio and Nicholas Verna who came in third at the Inaugural Bankruptcy Negotiation Competition, sponsored by the American College of Bankruptcy and USC Gould School of Law. They were coached by David Chanin at Kleinbard, Bell & Brecker. The negotiation involved an out-of-court restructuring between a financially distressed California winery and an unofficial committee of its unsecured creditors.

OSA Announcements

Pre-Registration Advising Sessions for 1Ls – MANDATORY!

The Earle Mack School of Law offers many different options for upper-level students in planning their curriculum to complete their degree. Besides figuring out what classes you should take to best prepare for the bar or compete in your field (or if you have no idea what your field is), there are also concentrations, co-curricular opportunities, and joint degree possibilities to consider. In addition, you probably want to know how to actually sign up for these things.

The administration will be holding two sessions, one for each first-year section, with a myriad of presenters to answer these questions:

  • Section 1 (those with Con Law in the afternoon) will attend the session Monday, March 18, 12:00 – 1:30 PM in Room 240.
  • Section 2 (those with Con Law in the morning) will attend this session on Wednesday, March 20, 12:15 – 1:45 PM in ISB 112. Pizza will be provided.

Summer Work Study Law Program

An information session for law students interested in participating in the Earle Mack School of Law’s 2013 Summer Work Study Program will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from Noon until 1:00 p.m. in Room 240. Pizza will be served!

Internships


CAPITAL AREA MANAGING PARTNERS (CAMP) DIVERSITY INITIATIVE is sponsoring the 2013 CAMP 1L SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM. This program provides qualified First-Year law students the opportunity to spend 8 weeks with a Central Pennsylvania law firm earning a $6,000 stipend while engaging in weekly networking events. Application deadline is February 15, 2013. See Symplicity Job Posting for a list of participating firms and instructions on how to apply.


The ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY LAW SECTION OF THE PENNSYLVANIA BAR ASSOCIATION is awarding a law student an $8,000 stipend to allow for a pro bono summer internship in the field of environmental and/or energy law ("EEL"). One law student will be awarded $8,000.00 (paid in three installments) starting with commencement of the internship in support of an unpaid, pro bono project of the student's choosing in the field of EEL performed during an 8-week period in the summer of 2013. First- or second-year law students or third-year night law students, who are residents of Pennsylvania or who indicate their intention to practice law in Pennsylvania, and who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the field of EEL, are eligible for consideration. The American College of Employee Benefits Counsel is pleased to announce the Ninth Annual Employee Benefits Writing Competition for law students

SUBJECT: Any topic in the field of employee benefits law.
OPEN TO: Any J.D. and graduate (L.L.M. or S.J.D) law students enrolled at any time between August 15, 2012 and August 15, 2013.

Counsel for the Situation: Incorporating Diversity into External Networking and the Practice of Law

The Pepper Hamilton African American/Black Affinity Group invites area attorneys and law students to participate in an interactive session focused on practical tips for highlighting diversity within recruiting and networking efforts and making diversity a part of everyday practice.

Taken from the title of the great Philadelphia lawyer William T. Coleman Jr's autobiography, Counsel for the Situation: Shaping the Law to Realize America's Promise, this panel will discuss topics such as communicating the value of diversity, translating diversity into dollars, and facilitating meaningful conversations amongst diverse attorneys and majority counterparts.

Participants will join in a dialogue amongst attorneys and professionals representing the corporate, financial, government, and not-for-profit sectors. Participants will also have the opportunity to put learned tips into action at a networking reception following the discussion.

CLE credit to be provided.

Use of Classroom Technology


Policy Announcement

Students are NOT permitted to use the technology in the classrooms, i.e. podium, computer, and screen.  We are happy to provide assistance when holding meetings or events arranged pursuant to the Event Scheduling Procedures.

The only exceptions are the Dean Scholars and Bar Prep course administrators who receive formal training from our IT staff.

Failure to comply will be considered a violation of the Code of Conduct.

We are pleased to announce that BARBRI Regional Vice President, Dale Larrimore will give a Bar Talk at Drexel Law on Tuesday, February 5 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Room 301. Mr. Larrimore will give an overview of the Pennsylvania Bar Exam and the BARBRI review program. He will also discuss financial aid available to EMSOL students. BARBRI provides a bar review course in all 50 states, so come with all of your bar prep questions. After the talk, please stop by the BARBRI table on the second floor of the law school to discuss financial aid and available BARBRI course discounts.

Bloomberg Law Training: Learn How to Use Bloomberg Law to Build Your Career
