Financial Aid Announcements

Financial Aid Announcements for the 2013-14 Academic Year

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available online. There is now an IRS data retrieval tool which will allow applicants to automatically upload information directly from a filed 2012 tax return. FAFSAs for returning students should be filed by May 1st to insure that aid is in place at the start of the fall term.

  • SPAM Alert! Make sure that you are using the Department of Education’s website at www.fafsa.ed.gov and not a “look alike” site intended to sell financial aid advice, or worse yet, used to steal personal information. It has been brought to the law school’s attention that some students are receiving spam emails with links to these non-government sites.

  • All returning law students receiving any financial aid, including Law Merit Scholarships, are also required to submit an Institutional Financial Aid Application or FAAPP. This form can be found at http://drexel.edu/~/media/Files/src/financial-forms/institutional_fa_app.ashx.

  • Students participating in the Summer Work Study Program must submit both a FAFSA and FAAPP for the 2013-14 academic year by March 1st.

  • Students who are interested in Graduate Plus, www.studentloans.gov, or private education loans for the 2013-14 academic year can begin applying in July.

Financial Aid for Summer 2013

Students interested in receiving financial aid for the Summer Semester at the law school should note the following:

  • The tuition charge this summer will be $ (amount to be announced by the Law School shortly) per credit, after the law school’s 20% discount is applied. The General Fee will be $410.

  • Law Merit Scholarships cannot be applied to summer tuition.

  • A FAAPP is not required for Summer. There are no additional financial aid applications necessary for federal aid as long as your FAFSA for 2012-13 is on file with the school.

  • Students taking at least 4.5 credits or half time enrollment can take out Federal Graduate Plus Loans or private education loans to cover their expenses. Students can start applying for summer loans the second week of April at www.studentloans.gov or at your private lender’s website. These loans will be for the 2012-13 academic year (NOT 2013-14).

  • Living expenses for 3 months, as well as tuition and fees, are added to a summer student’s 2012-2013 budget. Loan funds can then be used to cover these costs, if needed. Funds are scheduled to disburse May 13, 2013 with refunds issued by the Bursar’s office over the following 2 weeks.

1098-T

The Bursar’s Office has made the IRS form 1098-T available through the billing section of Drexel One. The law school has become aware that some Internet Browsers are failing to bring up a completed form. Internet Explorer appears to be working correctly. Please contact the Bursar’s office through https://ask.drexel.edu/ if you have any questions.
